Preserve the beauty of your jewellery by storing each piece separately,  in a dry and humidity-free environment. 

Keep your jewellery sparkling by polishing it regularly with a microfiber cloth or a specialised jewellery polishing cloth to eliminate tarnish and restore its shine. 

Avoid exposure to chemicals, perfumes, lotions, hand sanitiser, chlorine, and saltwater to maintain the integrity of your jewellery. 

We recommend applying your lotions and perfumes, allowing them to absorb into the skin and dry, prior to putting on your jewellery. 

We advise removing your jewellery before sleeping, bathing, showering  or swimming. 

Please note that as the designer components are pre-loved and often vintage, care is needed to preserve the beauty of your jewels. 

A care card is included with every order and we strongly recommend these instructions are followed in order to look after you treasure.

Yes! All the components we repurpose are authentic pre-loved designer components.

While we do not typically provide authenticity certificates with each order, we have every original component authenticated prior to repurposing. We include a copy of each of these authenticity certificates on our website with each listing. A copy of these certificates is available on request.

No. The semi-fine collection has been carefully curated to complement our repurposed designer jewellery. All the pieces in the semi-fine collection are new, not pre-loved or vintage.

At The Vintage Secret, our jewellery is made from a combination of high quality gold filled, sterling silver, rhodium plated, ternary alloy plated and gold plated chains and findings. These will not tarnish if taken care properly. 

Our pearl necklaces are made with fresh-water pearls, hand-strung on silk thread. Our pearl drops are shell pearls, which are man-made using mother-of-pearl.

We use these materials to ensure our jewellery is affordable yet high quality. 

All chains and earrings hoops are free from nickel and lead.

Gold Filled

Gold-filled jewellery has a substantial layer of genuine gold that is mechanically bonded to a base-metal core. The gold layer is significantly thicker and more durable than standard gold plating, making gold-filled jewellery more durable than gold-plated jewellery.

Gold-filled jewellery tends to be a slightly lighter or softer gold colour, so it may not always be a good colour match for some of the vintage designer components that we repurpose.

With proper care, gold-filled jewellery can maintain its appearance for many years and is a great option for pieces that are worn often.

We strongly recommend that the care instructions provided with each order are followed.

Gold Plated

Gold-plated jewellery has a thin layer of genuine gold applied over a base-metal core. The gold layer is thinner than gold-filled, and can be susceptible to wearing or fading over time, particularly with frequent wear or exposure to pool or sea water, perfumes, lotions and other chemicals.

Gold-plated jewellery is a beautiful and more affordable option, and often can be sourced in a richer yellow gold colour so may be the best gold match to pair with the vintage designer components.

All chains, clasps and earrings hoops are free from nickel and lead.
